Bishopthorpe Preschool Playgroup is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, marking six decades of supporting children and families in Bishopthorpe and across York.
Founded in 1966, the community-run playgroup is believed to be Yorkβs longest-running. Over the years, it has welcomed generations of local children, with many families returning because of the warm, familiar environment it has provided for more than half a century.
The anniversary comes at an exciting point in the playgroupβs story
A new manager, Lauren, has joined the setting and is leading plans for its next chapter.
Alongside building on the playgroupβs long-standing strengths, Lauren is helping to expand what it offers and make more places available for local families. The aim is to ensure that Bishopthorpe Preschool Playgroup continues to be an accessible, high-quality early-years setting for the community for many years to come.
The playgroup is run as a charitable incorporated organisation, supported by its staff, committee and the families who make up its community. Its 60th year is both a chance to celebrate the people who have shaped it over the decades and to look forward with confidence.
Lauren said:
It is a privilege to join a playgroup with such a special history. We want to honour everything that has made it so valued by local families, while creating new opportunities and welcoming more children into the setting.
Bishopthorpe Preschool Playgroup is now welcoming enquiries from families looking for early-years places.
