More public spaces around York Station are set to open over the coming weeks as improvement works in the area continue to progress.
A night-time road closure will be in place on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 September to allow work to take place at the crossing area in front of the portico, including the installation of enhanced drainage.
The closure will run from 8pm to 5.30am on both nights, with the road reopening each morning.
When the road is closed overnight, vehicles will still be able to access the Station Portico and Tea Room Square, however there will be no vehicle access for through traffic, with diversions in place.
Taxis, Blue Badge holders, and anyone picking up or dropping off passengers in the short Stay Car Park will continue to have access at all times. Taxis will only be able to access the portico from the Blossom Street end of Station Road and on exit from Tea Room Square, all vehicles will need to turn left in the direction of Lendal Bridge.

Over recent days and weeks people will have noticed more and more areas opening up, including the seating next to the city walls and it has been great to see people starting to use and enjoy them.Β
βThese latest closures come as we near the end of the highways elements of work and will allow us to open up more areas. This will include the cycle lanes, which we are aiming to open by early October.Β
βWe are hugely grateful for everyoneβs continued patience while our contractors finish off the highways work. Like everyone, we are keen to see the works finished as quickly and safely as possible.
In the past month, progress has been made on the works. This includes finishing the paving and kerbs, adding more lining to the cycle lanes and adding green tarmac to the junctions near cycle lanes. The gullies in the area have also been cleaned.
Following these two overnight closures further works will be needed. On the night of Monday 21 September, dependent on weather, a night shift will be completing additional lining markings for the cycleways by Left Luggage and near the station. This will be done under local traffic management with no restrictions in place.
Soon after this, signage will be installed which will enable the opening up of all the cycle routes, except those near the Substation. More information on these arrangements will be shared as soon as possible.Β
Once the cycle lanes are open the majority of fencing will be removed meaning more spaces for people to use and enjoy. In October more planting will be added to the area.
