Families in York can get lots of information, advice and support on how to make their money go further this summer, during York Talk Money Fortnight.
Run by City of York Council and partners across the city, including Citizens Advice, Peasholme Charity, Age UK, York Energy Advice and OCAY, the regular event aims to help people who are struggling financially by sharing information and advice, and signposting to local help and support.
July's event focuses on support for families, with key issues including:
Universal Credit and national changes which mean that families can now claim an extra amount if they have more than two children
Free School Lunches and reminding families who currently receive free school lunches to re-apply this summer due to changes to the national system
Yorkโs Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) for families whose children receive Free School Lunches
Healthy Start support for people who are pregnant or have children under 4, who may be able to receive help with the cost of healthy food and milk, plus fee vitamins.
Help with the cost of Secondary School uniform
The team is hosting two extra family-friendly drop-in sessions where you can go for support and advice:
Acomb WMC, 12 Front Street, Acomb YO24 3BZ on Wednesday 8 July from 10am-2pm and
York Community Stadium, Monks Cross, Huntington YO32 9AF on Sunday 12 July from 10.30am-3pm.
