Bellway Strategic Land has submitted outline plans for a new residential development in Brayton, near Selby.
The proposals are for a 23-acre site to the south of Mill Lane and to the north of the A63 and anticipate the delivery of up to 170 new homes, with 10 per cent to be provided as affordable housing.
Nearly half of the land would be earmarked for public open space and wildlife areas such as woodland, wetland and wildflower meadow, delivering a significant improvement in natural habitats that goes considerably beyond legal requirements.
The submission of plans to North Yorkshire Council follows a public consultation process which included a public exhibition in May this year.

This land in Brayton is suitable to help address North Yorkshireβs acute need for new housing and the shortfall of sites identified to accommodate new developments in the Selby area.
βWe have carefully considered the specific location of this site when designing our proposals for a range of two to five-bedroom homes which we believe will deliver a sustainable and well-balanced community.
βThe project would include the construction of a new 3-metre footway along the south of Mill Lane to provide pedestrian and cycle access to the existing community in Brayton.
βExisting trees and hedgerows will be retained where possible and complemented by new planting, with native broad-leaved woodland planting along the southern boundary creating a rich ecological buffer, street trees lining the primary street and new wetland and wildflower areas created.
βWe anticipate these measures will help to deliver a significant enhancement in biodiversity, reflecting Bellwayβs BNG+ commitment to go beyond the minimum requirements set by legislation.
Bellway Strategic Landβs outline proposals are now with North Yorkshire Council for consideration. If the outline plans are approved, a detailed planning application will then be required to set out the number of homes and their design and appearance.
